CLCA Newsletter, The Seascape – January 2003

Member of the Month- Meet Gregory Miller of Green & Growing Landscaping, Inc. He’s been aCLCA member for two years, but is a veteran in the landscaping business.

Greg began his career in 1990, spending seven years with Harmonic landscaping of Santa Cruz asa maintenance crew leader. He worked for a year with Prime Landscape as an installation foreman, thenanother year with Coastal Evergreen as an irrigation technician.

Greg studied in the Horticulture program at Cabrillo College and speaks highly of Jerry Allison’sLandscape Construction class and Lisa McAndrews’ Plant Identification class. He also enjoyed takingseminars at the 2001 Landscape Industry Show in Long Beach.

The last three years he has operated his own business in the Live Oak area of Santa Cruz. Greg’sareas of specialty in his business are irrigation, woodwork & stonework. He most recently completed amajor project at the Kell residence in Rio Del Mar that included plant installation, dry set flagstone,irrigation upgrading and low voltage lighting.

Green & Growing incorporated a year ago, resulting in a deluge of paperwork that necessitatedhiring a permanent business bookkeeper. Fortunately, Michelle Allen, AIM, a certified QuickBooksadvisor, came to the rescue.

Greg has been married to his wife Martha, for three years. Their son, Nicholas, celebrated hisfirst birthday earlier this month. Music and the outdoors occupy most of Greg’s leisure time. He enjoyshiking, camping, mountain biking, surfing and snowboarding. He’s played the drums for 23 years and iscurrently playing with a new band and working on recording a CD.
